Situated on the River Crna, almost 12 kilometres on the southwest of Kavadarci, the Lake Tikvesh is known as the most beautiful as well as the oldest artificial lake in Macedonia.
This splendid lake was built in 1968 by directing the waters of the river and building a 104 metres high dam which is made of stones. The Lake Tikvesh is not only the oldest but also the largest one in the country which covers an area of 14km2 and 29km with a capacity of 475 million m3 water. The lake is used for the production of energy, but also many people use its waters for fishing and other relaxing activities.
The Lake Tikvesh is situated in a tranquil green area, surrounded by tall trees, various plants and green grass which make the whole area ideal for having picnic with family, enjoying the fresh air and the pleasant tranquility that the environment provides.
