Natural Science Museum has focused on the collection, investigation and exhibition of representative specimens, as well as the conservation of the national heritage at a national level. It is the oldest biological institution within the country and shows the richness of Macedonian geology, flora and fauna in its permanent exhibitions on an area of 1,400 m2. Owing to the fact that the fauna of Macedonia abounds with many interesting Mediterranean and continental species, this museum succeeded in engaging many eminent scientists in the last 30 years to carry out studies and research. Besides the accomplishments related to the exhibitions, for the entire period of the Museum's existence, special attention has been given to field investigation and collection activities. As a result of its long-term, continuous acquisition activities, the current Museum collections are more than 270,00 specimens of rocks, minerals, fossils, plants and animals, including the collections that were obtained from donations.
