The Museum of Macedonia is one of the oldest museums in the country. This is a national museum that researches and displays the archeological, ethnological, historical and artistic heritage of Macedonia. It has got total area of 10,000 m2, 6,000 m2 of which are for permanent or temporal exhibitions. Within the museum is Kurshumli Han, a historical monument, is on display too. There are exhibits from archeology, ethnology, history and an Icon Gallery. The ethnographic section houses a stunning collection of instruments and traditional costumes, arranged by the region of origin in Macedonia and surrounding territories. The Archeological museum takes the tourist on a journey through the millennia and across the courtyard in the archeological section there are endless rooms with pottery, jewelry and statues. The institution is of complex character which means it gathers, keeps, conserves and presents the national Macedonian historical and cultural heritage.
